Handwashing – The Right Way!

A guest blog by Green. Urban. Lifestyle.

To protect yourself from viruses and other pathogens, thorough handwashing is one of the most effective and simplest measures. However, studies and surveys show that only around 40% of people in Germany wash their hands correctly according to the recommendations of the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA). I find this alarming – even without coronavirus – which is why I want to address this topic today.

How to do it properly

Step 1:

Wet your hands under running water. The temperature doesn’t really matter! You don’t need to “scald” your hands with hot water, as is often suggested on social media.

Step 2:

Lather your hands thoroughly with a mild soap. A liquid soap like the Herbacin kamille Cream Soap, offered in a hygienic and refillable dispenser, works particularly well. Spread the soap gently and carefully across your hands. Don’t forget the spaces between your fingers and your thumbs – these are often overlooked. The recommended duration for lathering is 20 seconds.

Step 3:

Rinse off the foam completely under running water and, if possible, turn off the tap using your elbow. If that’s not possible, I recommend using a reusable cloth.

Step 4:

Dry your hands thoroughly using paper towels. If you prefer a more sustainable option, you can carry a small guest towel with you when you’re out and about. At home, you likely already have a fresh towel for each family member hanging in the bathroom.

Step 5:

Afterward, don’t forget to treat your hands to proper care. I recommend the Herbacin kamille Hand Cream soft – it absorbs instantly and leaves your skin not only well-nourished but also silky smooth. Tip: Be sure to check out the other Herbacin hand creams as well!

 What the “Alpenlümmel” says

As you can see, it can be very simple to effectively protect yourself from viruses. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should completely avoid hand sanitizer! Especially when you’re out and about and can’t wash your hands properly, it’s an essential companion. At home, however, water and soap are more than enough – like the Herbacin kamille Cream Soap we currently use in our bathroom. While Sissi prefers solid soaps, I’m a big fan of liquid soaps. And when they smell as fresh and herbal as the mild camomile cream soap from Herbacin, handwashing becomes twice as enjoyable.

The delicate foam from the hygienic pump dispenser cleanses so gently that you can even use it on your face. Skin irritation or redness becomes a thing of the past – after washing, your skin feels soft, smooth, and cared for. Good to know: the liquid soap contains natural camomile flower extract, is free from parabens and mineral oils, and contains no animal-derived ingredients or artificial colorings. You can purchase the Herbacin kamille Cream Soap in drugstores or in the Herbacin online shop. The refillable pump dispenser (200 ml) is available for EUR 4.39, while the 1000 ml refill bottle costs EUR 6.49.

Maybe you’ll give the Herbacin kamille Cream Soap a try?
