Bath foam, bath salts or bath oil? Your skin type makes all the difference!

A warm bath is pure relaxation — no doubt about it. But especially for dry skin, a bath oil can be more suitable than a classic bubble bath.

A bath is no longer just about cleansing. Slipping into the tub has become a little everyday wellness ritual. Warm water relaxes the muscles, and carefully selected fragrance blends can have a positive effect on emotional well-being.

However, for our skin, bathing can quickly become a real stress test if a few important points are not taken into account.

What you should keep in mind when taking a bath:

  • The bath additive should match your skin type
  • Choose the right water temperature
  • Pay attention to the length of your bath

Bath Rule No. 1: Don’t bathe too long or too hot

Whether bubble bath, bath salts, or bath oil – if the bathwater is too hot, your skin suffers. The optimal water temperature is between 35 and a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius. Beyond personal comfort, water temperature also influences the effect of the bath. Cooler water is activating and gives you fresh energy. Warmer water is calming and relaxing.

In addition to the temperature, the length of your bath is crucial. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t exceed 20 minutes. Otherwise, the skin barrier becomes too softened and the skin loses too much moisture. Warm baths can also be a challenge for the circulatory system, so moderation is key.

Tailor your bath routine to your skin type

Pure bath-time fun with bubble baths

Wrapped in warm water and covered in feather-light foam, with nothing to hear but the soft crackling of tiny shimmering bubbles — for many, a bubble bath is an absolute must when it comes to relaxing at home. Combined with different fragrance blends, a bubble bath becomes a true wellness moment in everyday life.

While adults enjoy the feeling of a velvety blanket of foam, children love playing and experimenting with the fluffy bubbles. Little adventurers get clean in a bubble bath, as the foam lifts away dirt, sweat, and more — even without much scrubbing. This is likely one of the reasons why children in particular adore bubble baths.

However, bubble baths contain very few nourishing ingredients and can have a de-lipidizing effect if you stay in the tub too long. That’s why it’s important to replenish the skin’s moisture reserves afterward and apply a body lotion or body milk.

Detoxifying with bath salts

Salt is a true classic in skincare — especially sea salt. So it’s only natural to use salt-based bath additives as well. Bath salts soften the water and affect its density, which increases buoyancy and makes you feel lighter in the bath. Sea salt in particular has very positive effects on the skin, stimulates circulation, and supports natural detoxification processes.

Bath oils are the perfect bath additive for dry skin

If you want your bath to relax not only your mind but also give your skin an intensely nourishing experience, a bath oil is the right choice. Bath oils — especially those made from high-quality, plant-based oils — provide the skin with deep, long-lasting moisture.

Whether sweet almond, macadamia nut, or avocado — all of these plant oils have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin and supply it with essential fatty acids without leaving behind an unpleasant greasy film. For anyone with very dry or itchy skin, a bath with a replenishing bath oil is truly soothing.

When using a bath oil, the right water temperature is essential. The water should be between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius to allow the lipid-replenishing effect to fully develop. And one important rule: do not towel off after bathing! This is the only way the valuable plant lipids can fully absorb into the skin. Gently pat yourself dry after the bath. The bonus: after a bath with bath oil, additional body lotion is not necessary!
